Photo Exposure Converter
Convert between shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and EV values for photography
Camera Exposure Settings
Faster shutter freezes or blurs motion
Lower f-stop = shallow depth of field
Higher ISO = more noise/grain
Exposure Value (EV):
11.9
Light Condition:
Outdoor: Bright/hazy sunlight

Photography Cheat Sheet
Shutter Speed Guide
- 1/1000+: Sports, fast action
- 1/250: General action, kids
- 1/60: Handheld without stabilization
- 1/15: Slight intentional motion blur
- 1+ sec: Night photography, light trails
Aperture Guide
- f/1.4-2.8: Portraits, low light
- f/4-5.6: General photography
- f/8-11: Landscapes, groups
- f/16-22: Maximum depth of field
- Lower f-number = more light
ISO Guide
- 100-200: Bright conditions, best quality
- 400-800: Indoor/cloudy, good quality
- 1600-3200: Low light, some noise
- 6400+: Very low light, noisy
- Use lowest ISO possible for the shot
Exposure Formula:
EV = log₂(f² / t) + log₂(ISO/100)
Where f = aperture f-number, t = shutter speed in seconds, ISO = sensitivity

Exposure Triangle
The three key elements of exposure - shutter speed, aperture, and ISO - work together to determine the brightness of your image.
Equivalent Exposures: Different combinations of settings can yield the same brightness level.
Creative Control: Each element affects more than just brightness:
- Shutter speed: controls motion blur
- Aperture: affects depth of field
- ISO: impacts image noise
Manual Exposure Tips
1. Sunny 16 Rule: On a sunny day, set aperture to f/16 and shutter speed to 1/ISO (e.g., ISO 100 = 1/100 sec).
2. Metering: Start with camera's suggested settings, then adjust for creative effect.
3. Bracketing: In tricky lighting, take multiple shots at different exposures.
4. Histogram: Check your camera's histogram to ensure proper exposure range.
5. Priority modes: Use Aperture Priority (A/Av) or Shutter Priority (S/Tv) as stepping stones to full manual.
Tip: Tap on the highlighted parameter (Shutter, Aperture, or ISO) to adjust which one changes when selecting a light condition

Common Conversion Formulas
| From | To | Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Exposure Value (EV) | Aperture (f), Shutter Speed (t) | EV = log₂(f² / t) |
| Exposure Stops Change | ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed | 1 stop = 2× ISO, or f/n to f/(n/√2), or t to 2t |
| Sunny 16 Rule | ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed | In bright sun: f/16, Shutter = 1/ISO |
| Depth of Field | Focal Length (f), Aperture (N), Subject Distance (D) | DoF ≈ 2 × N × CoC × D² / f² |
