Formula

  • Business days = calendar days − weekend days − holidays on working days
  • Each full week contains 5 business days with a Saturday and Sunday weekend

How the Business Days Calculator works

A business day is a day that is neither a weekend day nor a public holiday. The calculator walks through every date in the range and counts those that qualify, so it is exact for any range and any weekend pattern.

US federal holidays are fixed by law. Holidays that fall on a Saturday are observed on the Friday before, and those on a Sunday are observed on the Monday after. Private employers and other countries follow different calendars, so use the custom list for those.

Worked example

From Thursday, January 15, 2026 to Saturday, February 14, 2026, counting both ends, there are 31 calendar days. Nine of them are weekend days, so there are 22 business days. Excluding Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19 leaves 21.
