How the Days Between Dates Calculator works
The number of days between two dates is the end date minus the start date. By convention the start date is not counted and the end date is, so Monday to Tuesday is one day. Tick the box to count both ends, which is what you want when counting the days of an event.
Months have different lengths, so the years, months and days figure is counted on the calendar. The calculator steps forward whole months from the start date, then counts the days left over. Leap years are handled automatically.
Worked example
From January 15, 2026 to April 15, 2026 is 90 days, because the period covers 16 days left in January, 28 in February, 31 in March and 15 in April. On the calendar that is exactly 3 months, or 12 weeks and 6 days.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator count the start and end date?
By default it counts the end date but not the start date, the same as subtracting one date from the other. Tick the include box to count both.
How many days are in a year?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year has 366. Leap years are divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400.
How do I count days since a past date?
Enter the past date as the start and today as the end. The result is the number of days that have passed.
