How the Time Duration Calculator works
Elapsed time is the end moment minus the start moment. The calculator converts both to minutes, subtracts, and breaks the result into days, hours and minutes.
For times on the same day, leave both dates the same. For a period that crosses midnight, set the end date to the next day.
Worked example
From 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on the same day is 8 hours 30 minutes, which is 8.5 hours or 510 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours are between 9 AM and 5 PM?
Eight hours. Count from 9 to 12, which is 3 hours, then add the 5 hours after noon.
How do I calculate time across midnight?
Set the end date to the following day. From 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM the next day is 8 hours.
