Speed Distance Time Calculator
Choose which quantity to find and enter the other two. Units can be mixed freely, for example kilometers and miles per hour.
Result
- Speed in m/s
- 26.822 m/s
- Speed in knots
- 52.139 knots
- Distance
- 150 miles
- Distance in kilometers
- 241.402 km
- Time
- 2:30:00
- Time in hours
- 2.5 hours
- Time in minutes
- 150 minutes
Formula
- Speed = distance ÷ time
- Distance = speed × time
- Time = distance ÷ speed
- 1 mph = 1.609344 km/h · 1 knot = 1.852 km/h
How the Speed Distance Time Calculator works
Speed, distance and time are tied together by one relationship. Cover the quantity you want in the triangle of distance over speed and time, and the remaining two show the operation.
The result is an average speed. A trip of 150 miles in 2.5 hours averages 60 mph even if part of it was driven faster and part slower.
Worked example
150 miles in 2 hours 30 minutes: speed = 150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 mph, which is 96.56 km/h.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate average speed?
Divide the total distance by the total time, including stops. Do not average the speeds of each leg unless the legs took equal time.
How long does it take to drive 100 miles at 65 mph?
100 ÷ 65 = 1.538 hours, which is 1 hour 32 minutes.
